Bonaire is home to a large population of wild donkeys. They were introduced by the Spanish back in the 16th century and they are still around, roaming the countryside of the island. The Donkey Sanctuary cares about them and provides a home to those who cannot survive in the wild anymore.

After a short introduction about Bonaire we will drive to the sanctuary where you will get a warm welcome by numerous donkeys who will stick their curious noses into the tuk to get to know you! Newborns and young donkeys are kept separate from the crowd and it is perfectly safe to get very close to them to pet them. In the visitor center you will hear more about the donkeys on Bonaire and about the work that is done here. And to top it off: in the wet season (November-February) you will have a good chance of spotting some flamingos in the nearby natural salt pond!

We continue the tour along the beautiful Westcoast towards the salt pier. The striking contrast between the pink water in the salt ponds next to the blue water of the ocean and the view of the salt mountains will take your breath away! We then head back to town where we will drop you off at your hotel/resort or your cruise ship.

This private guided tour to the donkeys takes about 2 hours and you will be accompanied by one of our expert tour guides.
