Salt has been central to the history of Bonaire. Ever since the Dutch arrived in Bonaire in 1636 salt has been harvested from the salt ponds in the South of Bonaire.

After a short introduction about Bonaire you will drive along the beautiful Westcoast towards the salt pier. You will see both the old and new salt ponds, the striking contrast between the pink water in the salt ponds next to the blue water of the ocean and visit the famous slave huts. En route you have a good chance of spotting flamingos!

This private guided tour to the salt ponds and slave huts takes about 1.5 hours and you will be accompanied by one of our expert tour guides who will tell you all about this beautiful part of Bonaire.

This tour is an excellent option for cruise ship passengers who prefer a shorter tour towards the South, but still want to see the beauty that the South has to offer!
